Accommodated Testing Services
Accommodated Testing Services (ATS) supports students on the University of Toronto’s St. George (downtown) campus who are registered with Accessibility Services and have been approved for testing accommodations. If you are studying at U of T Mississauga (UTM) or U of T Scarborough (UTSC), your accommodated testing is handled through your respective campus.
Not sure where to start? We're here to help.
Accessibility Services creates your academic accommodation plan based on your documented needs and learning profile. They will also assign you an accessibility advisor to assist you on your journey.
You must register for each quiz, test, or exam you want accommodations applied to. The process is slightly different whether you are writing online or in-person.
Learn all about what to expect for your assessment, including what to leave at home if you are writing in person, when and where your assessment will be, and what happens during your assessment.
Register for Accommodations for Your Assessment (Quiz, Test or Exam)
If you have registered with Accessibility Services, your next step is to register with Accommodated Testing Services for each quiz, test or exam you want accommodations applied to.
Confirm your scheduled assessments for each course. This includes any quizzes (including pop quizzes), tests, and exams written either in person or online that, and any other timed assessments you will need your testing accommodations for. You can find this information on your syllabus and/or course website.
Not sure of the timing details for one of your assessments? Reach out to your instructor and ask! You can let them know that you need these details in order to book your accommodated assessments.
Assessments during the term
The deadline to book with Accommodated Testing Services for assessments during the term is 14 days prior.
Assessments during the term must be between September 2-December 4 or January 5-April 8.
Assessments during the exam period
The deadline to book with Accommodated Testing Services for assessments for exams varies.
For exams between December 5-23, registration is open between October 31-November 14.
For exams between April 9-30, registration is open between February 27-March 13.
You must book with Accommodated Testing Services for each assessment you will need your testing accommodations for, whether remote or on campus/in person.
Bookings can be made through the “Accommodations” section in ACORN. You can follow the steps in this walkthrough, or watch the video below.
If your assessment spans several days, register for the first day of availability (not your intended writing day). Register using the earliest start time listed on the platform. Enter the standard test duration, not the full window of availability. Accommodated Testing Services calculates the extended time (e.g., 90 minutes instead of 60 minutes).
You can visit ACORN to check which assessments you have booked with Accommodated Testing Services. Ensure there is an individual booking for each assessment requiring test accommodations.
On campus/in person assessments
Accommodated Testing Services will send you an email 2 business days prior to your booking. This email will confirm your writing time and location. If you do not receive this email, contact us immediately.
It is very important that you carefully review this email, as your start time may be different than the standard class start time.
Accommodated Testing Services also uses various locations on campus, so please be sure to check your writing location. Remember, you will be writing at an Accommodated Testing Services location, not with your class!
Online assessments and take-home exams
Accommodated Testing Services will send you an email when we confirm that your accommodations are being applied to your assessment. Typically, we are able to confirm this 1-2 business days prior to your assessment.
Please note: for online assessments, your time-based accommodations will be applied, if applicable. If you have concerns about how to access other accommodations while writing an online or take home exam, please reach out to your Accessibility Advisor at least 14 days prior.
Prepare for Your Assessment
If you have registered for your accommodated assessment, you can now take the time to prepare. Whether your assessment is on campus (in person) or online, we are here to help you in your journey.
On Campus/In Person Assessment
When your assessment is in-person, we ensure the testing environment meets your specific accommodation needs.
Most on-campus accommodated assessments are administered at the University of Toronto’s Exam Centre at 255 McCaul Street, Exam Room 340. Alternate locations may be used during midterm and final assessment periods.
Be sure to check your confirmation email from us, which you should receive 2 days prior to your assessment. This will indicate when and where you will take your assessment, along with test-specific instructions. If you do not receive this by 12pm one business day before your assessment, email us immediately.
